Washington, District of Columbia, United States, January 2025 – Joel Kaplan has been appointed as the Chief Global Affairs Officer at Meta Platforms, a pivotal leadership role where he will spearhead the company’s global policy and public affairs strategy. His new responsibilities include shaping Meta’s approach to regulatory challenges and guiding its global influence amid evolving international policies and public scrutiny.
Joel Kaplan has been with Meta Platforms for over ten years, previously serving as Vice President, Global Public Policy since November 2014, where he played a significant role in shaping Meta’s public policy strategies across international markets. Before this, he was Vice President for U.S. Public Policy at Facebook for approximately three years, focusing on domestic regulatory and policy affairs.

Prior to joining Meta, Joel was the Executive Vice President for Public Policy and External Affairs at Energy Future Holdings for nearly two years, where he led external relations and public policy initiatives. His earlier career includes serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at The White House, where he worked closely with policymakers on national issues. He also held leadership positions at the Office of Management and Budget and as Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the Chief of Staff during his earlier career in public service.
