CENTER VALLEY, Pa., March 27, 2024 – Olympus, a global leader in MedTech innovation, is pleased to announce the elevation of Julien Sauvagnargues to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA), effective April 1, 2024. Reporting directly to Olympus Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Gabriela Kaynor, Sauvagnargues’ appointment marks a significant step in his illustrious career with Olympus, which he joined in 2006.
Sauvagnargues, who has successfully held the role of OCA President since 2020, will now oversee the company’s extensive operations across both North and South America from its headquarters in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. As the new CEO, he will also join the Board of Directors for AdvaMed, a leading MedTech trade association, reflecting his pivotal role within the industry. His participation in AdvaMed’s CEO summit, an annual gathering of MedTech executives, and his continued service on the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Partnership, showcase his influence and commitment to the sector.
In tandem with Sauvagnargues’ promotion, Richard Reynolds, President of the Medical Systems Group, will join the OCA Board of Directors, while David Gomez transitions from Deputy General Counsel to Corporate General Counsel, OCA, succeeding Thomas Glavin, who is set to retire later this year.
These leadership transitions follow the departure of Nacho Abia, the former CEO of OCA and global CSO, who has played a foundational role in shaping Olympus’ success in North America, the company’s largest revenue-contributing region.
Reflecting on the transition, Abia stated, “Julien, Richard, and I have worked closely as leaders to help make the North American Olympus business what it is today. Although I’m excited for my next journey, I’m looking forward to watching their success as they take OCA to inspiring new places.” Abia will embark on a new chapter as CEO of Grifols, a pharmaceutical company based in his native Barcelona, Spain, marking the end of his remarkable 23-year tenure with Olympus.
Stefan Kaufmann, CEO of Olympus Corporation, expressed his gratitude for Abia’s contributions and optimism for Sauvagnargues’ leadership, saying, “We cannot be grateful enough for Nacho’s 23-year tenure with this company. We will miss him greatly, but also we’re delighted that Julien will take the reins for the many exciting initiatives to come.”
