Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States – October 2024 – Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, has announced the appointment of Katie Bata Heeter as Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer. In this new role, Heeter will oversee human resources strategies that align with Penn Medicine’s mission to advance knowledge, improve health, and foster an inclusive culture that supports diversity, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Katie Bata Heeter brings a wealth of HR expertise, with over two decades of experience in healthcare HR leadership roles. Prior to joining Penn Medicine, she served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources Strategic Business Services at Baylor Scott & White Health for about three years. During her tenure, she led HR transformation initiatives, workforce planning, and strategic HR partnerships to enhance the organization’s HR operations.

Before her time at Baylor Scott & White Health, Heeter was Vice President/Regional Executive Director, Human Resources at Advocate Aurora Health for approximately three years. Her responsibilities included leading HR operations, talent acquisition, and organizational development across multiple regions, focusing on enhancing employee engagement and implementing strategic HR solutions.
Heeter also held the role of Regional Vice President/Vice President, Human Resources at Advocate Health Care for about five years. In this role, she managed HR strategies, employee relations, and workforce planning, driving HR excellence across the organization.
Earlier in her career, Heeter was the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Sherman Health Systems, where she spent roughly seven years overseeing all HR functions, including talent management, employee engagement, and HR compliance.
