Preston, England, United Kingdom, October 2024 – Matt Torbett has been promoted to the role of Head of Procurement People & Capability at BAE Systems. In this new position, Matt will lead efforts to enhance the organization’s procurement capabilities, focusing on developing the procurement workforce and ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals. His leadership will play a crucial role in strengthening procurement processes and talent development at BAE Systems.
Matt’s career at BAE Systems spans over 15 years, during which he has held various senior roles. Most recently, he served as the Senior Commercial Manager, People & Capability, overseeing the commercial and procurement activities across several high-profile contracts. His leadership in this role helped secure and manage contracts, including a £1.9 billion deal with the Saudi Arabian Government for the sale of training aircraft, as well as a £50 million annual program deploying field service engineers to support the UK Government’s Saudi British Defence Co-operation Programme.
Prior to that, Matt worked as a Contracts Manager for BAE Systems (Operations) Limited in Saudi Arabia, managing the commercial aspects of various defense contracts, including a £150 million bid into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His tenure in this role solidified his expertise in large-scale defense procurement and international negotiations.
Matt’s early experience at BAE Systems includes his role as Principal Commercial Officer, where he was responsible for managing commercial and procurement activities for aerospace and defense programs. He also played a significant role in developing internal resourcing and training initiatives to support capability development across the company.
Throughout his time at BAE Systems, Matt has demonstrated a deep understanding of defense procurement and commercial strategy, consistently contributing to the company’s success in managing complex international contracts and programs.
