Melvin Mathias Appointed as Chief Human Resource Officer at Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, October 2025 – Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., India’s only backward-integrated coal tar derivatives manufacturer, has announced the appointment of Melvin Mathias as Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO). In his new role, Melvin will lead the company’s people strategy, culture transformation, and leadership development agenda as Epsilon Carbon accelerates its next phase of growth and global expansion.

Bringing with him nearly three decades of HR leadership experience across manufacturing, energy, and industrial sectors, Melvin is widely recognized for driving strategic HR transformation, talent excellence, and operational efficiency across large-scale, multi-country organizations.

Before joining Epsilon Carbon, Melvin Mathias served as Senior Vice President – Human Resources at Yokohama Off-Highway Tires for nearly eight years. In this role, he led corporate HR and global centres of excellence, overseeing performance and rewards, talent management, recruitment, learning & development, and HR business partnering across international markets. His tenure was marked by significant HR process transformation and alignment of global performance frameworks.

Prior to that, Melvin was Vice President – Human Capital & General Affairs at Welspun Corp Ltd, where he designed and implemented a new global grade structure and HRIS transformation across India, the USA, and the Middle East. He was a strategic advisor to top management on organization design, IR strategy, and talent management for both Indian and overseas operations.

Earlier, Melvin spent over five years at Transocean, where he led HR operations for eight countries across Africa and the Mediterranean region, managing a multicultural workforce spanning 70+ nationalities. His tenure involved complex global workforce planning, compliance management, and the design of robust international HR processes.

He began his career with Mahindra & Mahindra, where he spent over eight years driving organizational change and culture-building initiatives, including the pioneering ‘Ingenious’ culture transformation program — the foundation of the now-iconic ‘Mahindra Rise’ philosophy.

Melvin holds an Executive Master’s in Human Resources Management from SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) and has been instrumental in integrating HR strategy with business transformation throughout his career.
