Singapore, May 2026 — MUFG has appointed Nishi Chandran as Managing Director and Chief Human Resources Officer for Asia Pacific, reinforcing the strategic importance of people leadership in supporting the bank’s regional transformation, talent strategy, succession planning, and long-term growth ambitions.
In his new role, Chandran will lead the people agenda across MUFG Bank’s Asia Pacific operations, focusing on talent development, leadership capability, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, succession management, and human capital strategy across the region.
Chandran has been associated with MUFG for more than eight years and has held several senior human resources leadership positions across Southeast Asia.
Prior to his appointment as Chief Human Resources Officer for Asia Pacific, he served as Head of Human Resources for Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Myanmar, overseeing HR strategy and people initiatives across multiple markets.
Earlier, he was Head of Human Resources, Malaysia, where he led talent management, organizational development, employee relations, leadership development, workforce planning, and HR transformation initiatives supporting the bank’s Malaysia operations.
He initially joined MUFG as Vice President – Human Resources, Malaysia, contributing to the development of the organization’s people and culture agenda in the market.
Before joining MUFG, Chandran spent nearly a decade with Standard Chartered Global Business Services, where he held senior HR leadership roles including Head of Human Resources, Malaysia Regional Client Care Centre and Head of Human Resources, Technology.
During his tenure, he supported technology and operations functions while also overseeing employee and industrial relations initiatives, workforce engagement programs, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness strategies.
Earlier in his career, Chandran served as Human Resources Manager at WWF-Malaysia, where he led HR operations and people management initiatives supporting the organization’s mission-driven workforce.
Throughout his career, he has built extensive expertise across human resources leadership, talent management, employee and industrial relations, leadership development, organizational transformation, succession planning, workforce strategy, employee engagement, and regional HR management.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management.
