Guwahati, Assam, India, September 2024 – The Assam Royal Global University has announced the appointment of Murthy Y.S.R. as its new Vice Chancellor. Murthy brings over two decades of academic leadership experience to his new role, and he is set to lead the university in its mission of providing a world-class educational experience. His vast expertise will drive the university’s strategic initiatives aimed at furthering educational excellence in the North Eastern region of India.
Prior to joining The Assam Royal Global University, Murthy served as the Vice Chancellor at RV University in Bengaluru for over four years. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the establishment and rapid growth of RV University, solidifying its place as a leading institution in the region.
Before his leadership role at RV University, Murthy was a key part of the top leadership at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), where he served for nearly 11 years in various capacities, including Professor of Law, Executive Director of the Centre for Human Rights Studies, and Registrar. He was instrumental in guiding JGU through its expansion phase and contributed to its recognition as an Institution of Eminence.
Murthy’s earlier career includes his tenure at the National Human Rights Commission of India, where he held leadership roles such as Director of Policy Research, Projects and Programmes Division, and Deputy Secretary. He also served in the Press Information Bureau, where he led Media and Communications for key government offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office.
