Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, May 2026 — Piri Kularajah has stepped into the role of Chief Financial Officer at the Tax Ombudsman, bringing extensive leadership experience across financial services, insurance, banking, actuarial strategy, governance, and enterprise financial transformation.
In his new role, Kularajah will lead the organisation’s financial strategy, governance, budgeting, forecasting, statutory compliance, and enterprise performance management while providing strategic financial advice to the Agency Head, Executive Committee, and Audit & Risk Committee. He will also oversee financial governance, controls, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and operational performance initiatives across the organisation.
Prior to joining the Tax Ombudsman, Kularajah served as General Manager, Financial Performance & Analysis at icare NSW, where he provided strategic financial leadership to executive stakeholders including the CEO, CFO, Board, and NSW Treasury. He led enterprise planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analytics, governance, and reporting transformation initiatives focused on long-term scheme sustainability and organisational performance.
Earlier, he spent more than three years with Acenda, where he served as Head of Profitability & Performance Reporting and Head of Actuarial Valuation. In this role, he led enterprise-wide financial performance management, strategic planning, scenario modelling, portfolio profitability analysis, actuarial valuation, APRA reporting, and enterprise embedded value reporting. He also led the implementation of AASB 17 compliance for insurance contract liabilities through a major enterprise transformation program.
Before Acenda, Kularajah held senior leadership roles at AIA Australia, where he managed strategic acquisition integration, actuarial business partnering, financial planning, valuation, and investor reporting activities related to the acquisition of CommInsure Life from CBA.
His earlier career includes strategic finance and actuarial leadership roles with ANZ, Aviva, Citi, and ING Australia, where he built deep expertise across financial planning and analysis, business partnering, capital optimization, actuarial valuation, profitability management, pricing strategy, portfolio analysis, enterprise forecasting, and economic capital frameworks.
With nearly two decades of experience across finance, insurance, banking, actuarial leadership, governance, and enterprise transformation, Kularajah brings a strong blend of strategic insight, financial stewardship, and operational excellence to the Tax Ombudsman.
