Shawn Flood Appointed as Head of Talent at Unconventional AI

San Francisco, California, United States, December 2025 — Shawn Flood has started a new role as Head of Talent at Unconventional AI, where he will lead talent strategy for a company rethinking the foundations of computing to dramatically improve energy efficiency for artificial intelligence. In this role, Flood is expected to play a critical part in building world-class teams across AI systems, analog computing, neuroscience, and next-generation hardware innovation.

In his most recent assignment prior to joining Unconventional AI, Shawn Flood served as Head of GenAI Recruiting at Databricks, where he led generative AI hiring initiatives following Databricks’ acquisition of MosaicML. In this role, he was responsible for scaling advanced AI research and engineering talent to support enterprise-grade generative AI platforms.

Before that, Flood spent close to two years as Head of Talent at MosaicML, where he built the talent organization during a high-growth phase leading up to the company’s acquisition by Databricks. His work focused on hiring elite AI researchers, infrastructure engineers, and platform leaders in a highly competitive talent market.

Earlier, he held senior recruiting leadership roles at Groq as Director of Recruiting, and at SambaNova Systems, where he contributed both as Director of Talent Acquisition and later as a Consultant, supporting rapid scale-up in advanced AI hardware and systems engineering organizations.

Flood has also played pivotal talent leadership roles at several high-impact AI and technology companies that went on to be acquired by global majors. These include Determined AI (acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise), Lattice Data (acquired by Apple), MosaicML (acquired by Databricks), Audax Health (acquired by UnitedHealth Group), and Meebo (acquired by Google), where he built and led recruiting teams through hyper-growth and acquisition transitions.

Earlier in his career, Flood held recruiting and technical roles across Facebook (FAIR and Applied Machine Learning), PayPal, Yahoo, Google, Robert Half Technology, and NASA Ames Research Center, giving him a rare blend of deep technical exposure and executive-level talent leadership across AI, infrastructure, and enterprise technology ecosystems.
