Houston, Texas, United States, July 2025 – Empower Pharmacy has announced the appointment of Valerie Capers Workman as its new Chief Human Resources Officer. In this pivotal role, she will lead the organization’s human capital strategy, drive workforce innovation, and support Empower’s mission to expand access to personalized pharmaceutical care through world-class people practices.
In her most recent role, Valerie served as Chief Talent Engagement Officer at Handshake, advising CHROs and talent leaders globally on strategic workforce planning, the future of work, and the impact of generative AI. She has been instrumental in helping companies navigate complex talent ecosystems and enabling equitable access to opportunity worldwide.
Previously, she served as Chief Legal Officer at Handshake, overseeing legal, global support, and trust & safety functions for a platform connecting 17 million students to 900,000 employers. Her role included leading M&A efforts and spearheading a global corporate governance framework.
Prior to Handshake, Valerie held several leadership roles at Tesla, including Vice President, People, where she reported directly to the CEO and played a critical role in expanding Tesla’s workforce from 50K to 100K. She led major transformations in employee experience, DEI, and total rewards, and was a key member of the company’s Management Committee and Board liaison.
Earlier in her career, she held senior leadership roles at GoTo Foods, Realogy Holdings Corp., Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and KPMG US, where she drove compliance, policy design, and global workforce programs. Her multidisciplinary background across HR, legal, compliance, and communications has positioned her as a trusted voice in the HR industry.
