Boston, Massachusetts, United States, July 2026 — Vertex Pharmaceuticals has promoted Aaron Kraus to Executive Director, Workforce Strategy & Innovation, creating a strategic enterprise capability focused on helping the biotechnology leader build a human-centered, AI-ready workforce for its next phase of growth.
In his new role, Kraus will lead Workforce Strategy & Innovation at Vertex, bringing together business strategy, workforce planning, organization design, AI-enabled work redesign, and enterprise transformation. Working across HR, Finance, Technology, Strategic Sourcing, and business leadership, he will help the organization understand how work is evolving, where capacity constraints exist, and how artificial intelligence, automation, and data can enhance enterprise productivity and organizational effectiveness.
A major focus of his mandate is leading Vertex’s enterprise workforce planning agenda, integrating long-range workforce planning, annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and AI-enabled organization redesign. He will also drive initiatives that translate AI adoption into measurable business value by redesigning roles, operating models, workforce capabilities, and talent strategies while ensuring productivity gains are reflected in workforce plans and strategic business decisions.
Prior to this promotion, Kraus served as Senior Director, Enterprise Workforce Planning & Lead HRBP for Data, Technology & AI, where he partnered with executive leadership to align business strategy with organizational design, AI transformation, and workforce planning. Earlier, as Senior Director, HRBP for Data, Technology & AI, Kraus partnered with Vertex’s Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Information Officer to scale the company’s global Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, External Innovation, and Computational Sciences functions. He translated digital and AI strategy into talent plans, organizational structures, and operating models that accelerated innovation and digital integration.
Before joining Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Kraus spent more than eight years with Liberty Mutual Insurance, progressing through several senior HR and organizational leadership roles.
As Vice President, Talent Partner for Commercial and Specialty Insurance, he led talent strategy for business units comprising nearly 1,500 employees and approximately $10 billion in gross written premium, ensuring talent capabilities supported long-term business growth.
Previously, as AVP and Talent Advisor for Middle Market Insurance, he designed and executed strategic workforce planning, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, succession planning, reskilling initiatives, executive coaching, and diversity strategies while serving on the business leadership team.
He also served as Director, Global People Experience, leading initiatives to improve employee engagement through enterprise-wide employee listening frameworks and experience design, and earlier as AVP and Talent Advisor for Technology, where he partnered with technology leadership to transform global technology organizations through Agile operating models, workforce reskilling, organizational redesign, and digital capability building.
Earlier in his Liberty Mutual career, Kraus led global selection, assessment, competency modeling, workforce planning, leadership assessment, and organizational psychology initiatives as Senior Program Manager and Program Manager, Selection & Assessment, applying industrial-organizational psychology principles to global talent systems and leadership development.
Before Liberty Mutual, Kraus worked in Learning and Organization Effectiveness at Parker Hannifin, where he supported global recruiting, competency modeling, performance management, leadership assessment, organizational development, and talent systems. Earlier, he served as a consultant with the Center for Organizational Research at the University of Akron, specializing in workforce planning, competency modeling, job analysis, assessment validation, and organizational consulting. His early professional experience also includes roles as a graduate teaching assistant and outreach and crisis clinician.
