Atlanta, Georgia, United States, January 2026 — Americold Logistics, LLC. has appointed Nathan Harwell as EVP, Chief Legal & People Officer, effective January 2026. In this enterprise-wide role, Harwell will lead Global Legal, Risk, Human Resources, Compliance, and Corporate Governance for the organization—serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and a primary advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors for the company’s temperature-controlled logistics REIT with 14,000 associates.
In his expanded mandate, Harwell’s responsibilities include governance and securities compliance, legal strategy and litigation oversight, enterprise risk and ethics frameworks, and the full people agenda spanning organizational and leadership development, succession planning, total rewards, talent acquisition, culture, diversity & inclusion, associate engagement, global communications, and the overall people experience. He will also continue to advise on strategic transactions including M&A, joint ventures, and dispositions, while strengthening global operating consistency across legal and HR teams.
At Americold Logistics, LLC., Harwell steps into the combined role of EVP, Chief Legal & People Officer after serving as EVP, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary for over two years. In this capacity, he acted as the company’s primary legal advisor to executive leadership and the Board, guiding corporate governance, securities compliance, strategic transactions, major commercial contracting, and complex litigation and regulatory risk management.
In the months immediately prior to this appointment, he also served as EVP, Interim Chief Human Resources Officer, taking on global responsibility for key people functions—covering organizational and talent development, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, culture and diversity, and communications—alongside his legal leadership responsibilities.
Before Americold, Harwell spent over three years at U.S. Xpress, Inc. as EVP, Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary, where he led enterprise legal and governance priorities and served as a direct advisor to the CEO and Board. He was also a key contributor to major strategic outcomes, including leading legal efforts tied to significant strategic transactions and broader enterprise risk management development.
Earlier in his career, Harwell spent over five years at Rinnai America Corporation, including as General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, while also serving on the Board of Directors. As a member of the executive leadership team, he supported strategic planning and decision-making and advised across a wide range of corporate matters including contracts, litigation, intellectual property, compliance, governance, and internal audit alignment.
He also brings experience as Senior Legal Counsel at Medtronic, serving as general legal counsel to a major division and supporting product development and commercial operations through contracting, compliance, and risk mitigation. Prior to that, he served as Senior Counsel at Exide Technologies, handling significant liability and contract litigation, regulatory compliance programs, and coverage disputes. His early legal career includes roles as Division Counsel at D.R. Horton, and as an associate at Hobgood & Rutherford LLC and King & Spalding, with work spanning commercial contracts, litigation, and labor and employment matters.
