The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. John L. Dalrymple as the new Dean and CEO, beginning July 1, 2024. Dr. Dalrymple is celebrated for his extensive background in medical education and women’s health, and he brings his rich expertise from Harvard Medical School where he has influenced the futures of countless medical professionals.
“Dr. Dalrymple’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the medical profession makes him the perfect leader to take our school into its next phase,” remarked Dr. Holly Humphrey, chair of the KPSOM board of directors. “We are excited for the insights and innovations he will bring to our community.”
Currently serving as the senior associate dean for Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. He holds the Ellen and Melvin Gordon Professorship in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology and Medical Education as well as executive vice chair and vice chair for faculty development and faculty affairs within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
“I am excited to contribute to a school that is redefining medical education to be more inclusive and effective at preparing the next generation of medical leaders,” said Dr. Dalrymple upon his appointment.
Before his tenure at Harvard, Dr. Dalrymple contributed significantly to the formation of the University of Texas, Austin’s Dell Medical School’s curriculum and served in various capacities at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. He has held leadership roles within the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, further highlighting his broad impact on medical education nationwide.
Dr. Dalrymple will succeed Dr. Mark Schuster, who will transition to a focus on health systems science research within KPSOM after leading the school since its inception.
