The promotion marks another significant milestone in Aidan’s career at SMBC Group, where he has progressed through a series of increasingly senior global HR leadership roles spanning Europe and Japan.

Most recently, Aidan served as Director – Global HR Management and Strategy in Tokyo, where he was responsible for shaping global HR strategy and management initiatives across the organization.

Prior to that, he held the position of Director – EMEA Head of Talent Acquisition, Head of HR Strategy and HR Integration Programme Lead in London, leading talent acquisition, HR strategy, and integration initiatives across the EMEA region.

Earlier, Aidan served as Vice President – EMEA HR Talent, followed by Vice President – Global HR Department in Tokyo, where he led a global assessment project. He initially joined SMBC Group in 2016 as Vice President – HR, Talent and Diversity (EMEA), laying the foundation for many of the organization’s talent and diversity initiatives across the region.

Before joining SMBC Group, Aidan spent more than four years with Post Office Ltd, serving as Head of Talent, Diversity and Performance Management. During this period, he established the organization’s first graduate and apprenticeship programmes, developed its diversity strategy, introduced data-driven succession planning, implemented an agile working strategy, and launched a continuous performance management approach. Earlier at Post Office Ltd, he served as Performance, Talent and Engagement Manager, overseeing employee engagement, performance management, and talent initiatives.

Earlier in his career, Aidan held a number of HR leadership roles at Royal Mail, including Performance Management Manager, Assistant to the Chief Executive, HR Business Partner, and Talent and Leadership Development Advisor, gaining broad experience across talent management, succession planning, leadership development, HR transformation, and organizational effectiveness.

Aidan holds a BA (Hons) in Human Resource Management & Marketing from the University of Strathclyde and a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management (CIPD Accredited) from the University of East London.

With nearly two decades of experience across global HR strategy, talent management, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, organizational transformation, performance management, and workforce strategy, Aidan brings extensive international HR leadership experience to his expanded global role.
