Akshay Thakurdesai elevated as Country Head – India and Head of Global Service Centres at Apex Group Ltd

Pune, Maharashtra, India, April 2025 — Akshay Thakurdesai has been elevated as Country Head – India and Head of Global Service Centres at Apex Group Ltd, further strengthening the company’s global leadership team. In his expanded role, he will be responsible for overseeing Apex’s operations across India—including the GIFT City entity—while also guiding strategic growth and integration across global service centres in Mauritius, South Africa, Mexico, Philippines, and Spain.

Bringing over 20 years of experience in asset servicing, capital markets, and strategic operations, Akshay now leads a team of more than 9,000 professionals. His elevation reflects Apex’s trust in his ability to align global service delivery with evolving client needs across jurisdictions.

Prior to this, Akshay served as Managing Director – India Country Head and Global Head of GCCs at Apex Group Ltd, where he played a pivotal role in consolidating delivery centres, driving operational scale, and steering the firm’s growth in India. His tenure was marked by full P&L ownership across multiple entities and a sharp focus on client-centric outcomes.

Earlier, he held senior leadership roles at State Street, where he led custody, complex operations, and reconciliation teams comprising over 6,000 professionals. He also played a transformative role at BNP Paribas, where he served as India Head – Securities Services, and COO – Securities (Equities) Global Markets, managing operations, client delivery, and regulatory advocacy.

Akshay’s journey with BNP Paribas also includes contributions to product innovation, compliance, and strategic partnerships, and his leadership was instrumental in delivering a 120% growth in Assets Under Custody during his tenure.n previous years, Akshay built foundational expertise in global custody systems and platforms at BNP Paribas’s Paris office and KPIT, and has represented industry interests through forums such as ASIFMA, SEBI, and various regulatory bodies—advancing both regulatory innovation and operational best practices.
