Bangalore, Karnataka, India, April 2025 – The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, organized a two-day National Seminar on 16th and 17th April 2025 in Bengaluru. The theme of the seminar was “Safety Challenges in Bulk Material Handling Equipment of Mining (Coal and Non-Coal)”.
The seminar was held under the guidance of Shri Ujjwal Tah, Director General, DGMS, as Chief Patron. Other senior officials included Shri D. Bageshwar Naik, DDG (Mech) as Chairman, Shri Ajay Singh, DDG (Elec), and Shri R. T. Mandekar, DDG, NW Zone as Co-Convenor.
Industry leaders such as Shri P. M. Prasad, CMD, CIL, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD, NMDC, Shri Uday A. Kaole, CMD, MCL, and Shri N. Balram, CMD, SCCL served as Patrons to the seminar.
Other dignitaries who presided over the sessions included Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical), NMDC, Shri S. K. Sinha, Director (Operations), HCL, Shri Nirbhay Sancheti, Director (SMS), Shri R. A. Meena, DDG (WZ), Shri Suprio Chakraborty, DDG (EZ), Shri Neeraj Kumar, DDG (NZ), and Shri Satyanarayana, Director, SCCL.
The event witnessed participation from officials of major mining companies such as CIL, NMDC, SCCL, HZL, HCL, MCL, Tata Steel, and JSW, as well as faculties from premier mining institutes, global mining safety organizations, research institutions, and equipment manufacturers.
A total of 30 technical papers were presented during the sessions, and 58 papers were published in the seminar souvenir, all focused on understanding and addressing current safety challenges in bulk material handling within the mining industry. Deliberations during the event offered forward-looking solutions to mitigate the associated risks.
The seminar served as a robust platform to explore frameworks for improving safety standards, strengthening the implementation of statutory provisions, and enhancing the health and safety of personnel employed in the mining sector. The event concluded with a valedictory function and felicitation of participants.
