Google Searches for How to Prompt AI are currently at an all-time high in the US

United States – November 2024 – Google has released a Prompting Essentials course. Developed by AI experts at Google and DeepMind, the course builds on Google’s foundational AI Essentials course, which is the most popular generative AI course on Coursera of all time globally. The new Prompting Essentials course will provide practical, hands-on training to help people prompt AI tools effectively. The course is product agnostic and teaches techniques that can be applied across industries and generative AI tools. People who complete the course will receive a certificate from Google that can be shared with their networks.

Google’s Prompting Essentials course will help address the need for prompting skills by providing a comprehensive curriculum in under 10 hours, with no experience necessary. Through a five-step prompting framework, the self-paced course will help people learn to:

  • Develop advanced prompting skills to create personalized AI agents
  • Build a library of reusable prompts
  • Quickly adapt emails for different audiences
  • Summarize lengthy documents into key takeaways
  • Brainstorm fresh ideas for a project
  • Build engaging presentations and get feedback on your delivery
  • Analyze data and make compelling visualizations
  • Use AI responsibly by recognizing biases and errors

In addition to Google, employers including Rocket Companies and Siemens provided input on the course, and will offer it as an upskilling resource for employees.

“Effective prompting is key to unlocking generative AI’s full potential,” said Lisa Gevelber, Founder of Grow with Google. “Google’s Prompting Essentials course, developed by Google experts with input from leading companies, equips people at all experience levels with the skills to prompt AI tools for increased productivity, creativity, and problem-solving at work and in everyday life.”

“Siemens is committed to integrating artificial intelligence with human expertise to drive innovation and efficiency across multiple industries,” said Daniela Proust, SVP and Head of People & Organization at Siemens USA. “Google’s new course will help to empower workers to apply AI with purpose and advances our commitment to helping our people develop skills for life.”

Today’s announcement builds on Google’s work to make AI training universally accessible. This includes the Google Career Certificates program, which equips learners for in-demand jobs and now includes practical AI tips for growing industries including data analytics, cybersecurity, and IT support. The program also includes an Employer Consortium of over 150 companies that use Google’s upskilling resources to hire, recruit and retain talent. Since 2017, the company‘s Grow with Google program has trained over 11 million Americans in digital skills.

The Prompting Essentials course is $49 on Coursera and is available globally. Visit grow.google/prompting to learn more.

“Generative AI has already revolutionized work and will soon transform every role and company,” said Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera. “Better prompting leads to better thinking and produces more reliable results. With this new course, people can learn directly from AI experts at Google about how to write more effective prompts, allowing them to reclaim time in their day.”
