AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, June 2026 — ING has announced the appointment of Hilde Garssen as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and a member of the Management Board Banking, effective 1 September 2026. The appointment strengthens the bank’s executive leadership team as it continues to advance its transformation agenda, foster leadership excellence, and build a future-ready organization.

Hilde joins ING with more than 25 years of leadership experience spanning the banking and telecommunications sectors. She is widely recognized for her expertise in human resources strategy, organizational transformation, leadership development, culture change, and large-scale business integration.

Prior to joining ING, Hilde served as Chief Human Resources Officer, Member of the Executive Committee, and Member of the Board of KPN, one of the Netherlands’ leading telecommunications and technology companies. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s people strategy, leadership agenda, talent development framework, and cultural transformation initiatives while supporting KPN’s broader business modernization and growth objectives.

Before joining KPN, Hilde spent nearly two decades with ABN AMRO Bank N.V., where she held a series of progressively senior leadership positions across human resources, transformation, operations, and business services.

Most recently at ABN AMRO, she served as Senior Managing Director Business Services, overseeing operations, facility management, procurement, international business services, market infrastructures, business management, and enterprise-wide change execution initiatives. In this role, she led large-scale digitization and optimization programs designed to enhance operational efficiency and business performance.

Earlier, she held the position of Chief Human Resources Officer, where she was responsible for the bank’s overall HR strategy, focusing on leadership development, rewards, organizational change, talent management, and workforce integration initiatives.

She also served as Managing Director Change, Integration and Management Group Coordination & Reward, leading the complex post-merger integration of ABN AMRO and Fortis Bank. During this period, she was responsible for driving change management, culture transformation, leadership interventions, executive rewards, and management development programs across the organization.

Her previous roles at ABN AMRO included TOPS HR Director, Human Resources Manager for Private Clients Netherlands, Senior HR Business Partner, and several other leadership positions that provided extensive experience across talent strategy, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and employee engagement.

Hilde began her career at ABN AMRO as a recruiter and management trainee, steadily building a distinguished leadership career marked by a strong track record of transformation, people leadership, and organizational development.

Throughout her career, she has developed deep expertise in human capital strategy, organizational design, culture transformation, leadership development, talent management, business transformation, operational excellence, and change management. Her ability to align people strategies with long-term business priorities has made her one of the most respected HR leaders in the Dutch corporate landscape.

Her appointment comes at a significant moment for ING as the bank continues to strengthen its position as a leading global digital bank. As CHRO and member of the Management Board Banking, Hilde will lead the bank’s people and culture agenda, helping to ensure that leadership capability, talent development, organizational effectiveness, and employee engagement remain key enablers of ING’s long-term strategy and sustainable growth ambitions.
