Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, April 2026 – John Ferguson has been appointed as Vice President, Human Resources – Stores at DICK’S Sporting Goods, where he will lead the HR strategy for the company’s extensive retail store network across North America.
In this role, John Ferguson will focus on strengthening store-level people strategy, talent development, employee engagement, and workforce effectiveness, supporting the company’s mission to deliver exceptional experiences for athletes and communities. His appointment reflects the company’s continued investment in building a high-performance, people-first retail organization.
Prior to joining DICK’S Sporting Goods, John Ferguson served as Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at NASCAR, where he led HR strategy for over 7,000 employees across 20+ locations. During his tenure, he played a key role in driving organizational transformation, succession planning, talent development, and post-merger integration, while fostering a strong culture that earned national recognition for workplace excellence.
Earlier, he spent nearly a decade at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, where he held multiple leadership roles including Vice President, People & Culture. In this capacity, he led HR operations supporting multiple professional sports teams and venues, driving employee engagement, diversity & inclusion initiatives, and workforce optimization strategies across a complex, multi-entity environment.
His earlier experience includes roles at Hyatt Regency, where he developed expertise in employee relations, labor management, and HR operations, building a strong foundation in people management within unionized and service-driven environments.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Ferguson also serves as a Board Member at the SHRM Foundation and as an HR Venture Advisor at SemperVirens Venture Capital, contributing to the broader HR ecosystem and future-of-work initiatives.
John Ferguson holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Howard University, equipping him with a strong foundation in business strategy and leadership.
