Washington, D.C., United States, June 2026 — Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as India’s Executive Director at The World Bank Group.Mishra brings nearly 29 years of experience across economics, finance, research, capital markets, equity strategy, technology, and financial analysis. His extensive background in economic research, valuation, global markets, and financial strategy positions him strongly for this global leadership role.
Prior to this appointment, Mishra served as Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research and Board Member at Axis Capital Ltd., where he contributed to macroeconomic research, market strategy, financial analysis, and investment insights.Earlier, he spent nearly two decades with Credit Suisse, where he held key leadership roles including Managing Director, Co-head of APAC Strategy, India Equity Strategy, and India Head of Research. During this long tenure, he built deep expertise across equity markets, capital market strategy, financial research, and institutional advisory.
Before entering the financial services and research domain, Mishra worked with Infosys Technologies Limited as Senior Technical Architect, gaining experience in technology architecture and enterprise systems. He began his career with Hindustan Lever Limited as Systems Manager, where he developed a strong foundation in technology and business systems.Academically, Mishra holds a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
With his multidisciplinary experience across economics, finance, research, capital markets, and technology, Mishra’s appointment marks a significant leadership milestone and is expected to contribute meaningfully to India’s representation at The World Bank Group.
