Dolvi, Maharashtra, India, August 2026 — Amit Sarkar has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at JSW Steel Dolvi, taking responsibility for the operations and maintenance of the company’s 10 MTPA integrated steel plant, which is planned to expand to 15 MTPA over the next year.
Sarkar brings more than three decades of experience in steelmaking and integrated manufacturing operations, including 18 years with JSW Steel. Prior to becoming Chief Operating Officer, he served as Senior Vice President at JSW Steel’s Dolvi operations, overseeing integrated ironmaking, agglomeration, raw material handling systems and jetty operations. His responsibilities included productivity, asset reliability, maintenance strategy, shutdown planning, safety and operational continuity across high-capacity steelmaking facilities.
Before moving to Dolvi, Sarkar spent nearly six years as Vice President at JSW Steel in Bellary, Karnataka, where he managed steel melting, hot strip mill and lime plant operations as well as production planning. During this period, he contributed to major capacity expansion and commissioning initiatives, including the commissioning of a large BOF converter and Hot Strip Mill-2. Earlier, as General Manager at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works, he led steel melting operations and supported the expansion of SMS-II capacity from 1.9 MTPA to 6.8 MTPA, alongside the introduction of advanced steelmaking technologies, automation and digitalisation initiatives.
Prior to joining JSW Steel in 2008, Sarkar spent more than 14 years with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) as a Senior Manager in Rourkela, Odisha. His work encompassed BOF operations, maintenance, production planning, commissioning and operational stabilisation. He began his professional career in 1992 as an Assistant Engineer at JEMCO, gaining early experience in cast iron and cast steel manufacturing.
Sarkar holds a Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. His extensive background in steelmaking, operational excellence, capacity expansion, asset reliability, process technology and people leadership will support JSW Steel Dolvi as the facility advances its next phase of growth.
