Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, July 2026 — Abbott has promoted Vaibhav Mittal to Director – Compensation & Benefits, India Region. In his expanded leadership role, he will lead the company’s compensation and benefits strategy across India, driving market-aligned reward programs, executive and employee compensation, benefits design, pay governance, and total rewards initiatives that support Abbott’s business growth and talent strategy.
Vaibhav’s promotion reflects a successful journey within Abbott, where he has steadily advanced through increasingly strategic leadership positions over the past three years. He joined the company in March 2023 as Head – Compensation & Benefits, before being promoted to Associate Director – Compensation & Benefits, India Region in August 2024. During this period, he played a key role in strengthening Abbott’s total rewards framework, enhancing compensation competitiveness, supporting organizational transformation, and aligning people strategies with evolving business priorities.
Prior to joining Abbott, Vaibhav spent more than seven years with BD (Becton Dickinson), where he held several senior leadership roles across the Total Rewards function. He served as Senior Manager – Total Rewards, South Asia & Australia/New Zealand (ANZ), following earlier roles as Senior Manager – Total Rewards, South Asia and Total Rewards Manager (India & Bangladesh). During his tenure, he led compensation strategy, salary benchmarking, incentive design, benefits management, and rewards governance across multiple countries, partnering closely with business and HR leadership to build competitive and performance-driven reward programs.
Earlier in his career, Vaibhav worked as a Consultant at Mercer, advising organizations on compensation benchmarking, salary structures, incentive design, and total rewards strategy. He also completed his MBA internship with Mercer, where he conducted an industry benchmarking study on sales incentive plans for pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies in India, providing insights into variable pay structures, incentive mechanisms, performance measurement, and rewards and recognition practices.
A graduate of Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, where he earned his MBA in Human Resources Management, Vaibhav has developed deep expertise across compensation strategy, total rewards, salary benchmarking, executive compensation, incentive design, benefits management, pay governance, and rewards transformation. His promotion underscores Abbott’s commitment to developing internal leadership while strengthening its people strategy in one of its most important growth markets.
