In his new role, Joseph will oversee the bank’s compensation, benefits, and incentive plan administration. He will play a pivotal role in managing total rewards strategies that align with the bank’s business goals and support employee engagement and retention.
Joseph A. brings extensive experience in total rewards, compensation, and benefits management to Flagstar Bank. Previously, he served as the Head of Total Reward, SVP at City National Bank for 1 year and 5 months, where he led a 25-member team in executing broad-based and executive compensation, benefits, and incentive plans. He was responsible for 70+ business-aligned compensation programs, salary structures, and risk and performance frameworks.
Prior to his tenure at City National Bank, Joseph worked at Santander Bank, N.A. for 8 years, most recently as the Senior Director of Compensation & Shared Services. In this role, he led a 15-person team responsible for total rewards administration, sales incentive plans, and HR operations. He managed a budget exceeding $100 million across 50+ compensation plans and directed year-end merit and bonus cycles.
Earlier in his career, Joseph spent 15 years at Citizens Bank, where he held several key roles, including Senior Vice President, Sales Compensation Director. His responsibilities included managing sales compensation programs for 10,000 employees and implementing branch P&L incentive plans. He also led a team of 12 compensation managers and analysts, driving strategy and solution development for the bank’s total rewards programs.
