Chesapeake, Virginia, United States, May 2025 – Travis McNail has been appointed as the new Chief Human Resources Officer at Family Dollar, bringing with him over two decades of extensive experience in human resources, operations, and talent development within the retail sector. In this elevated role, he will lead the company’s HR strategy, talent management, organizational culture, and employee relations across thousands of locations nationwide.

Travis has been with the broader organization for more than 22 years, having held several pivotal leadership roles at Dollar Tree Stores. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Human Resources, where he played a strategic role in culture development, talent acquisition, retention strategies, and legal compliance. His earlier assignments include Director of Corporate Human Resources, Director of Associate Relations, and Regional Human Resources Manager, where he led HR policy interpretation, employment-related investigations, and large-scale compliance functions.

His career journey also includes deep operational experience, starting as District Manager and later moving into Regional Training Manager, where he helped scale talent development frameworks and standardized training models across locations. Before joining Dollar Tree, Travis served as General Manager at BJ’s Wholesale Club and held various leadership roles at Walmart, including District Manager and Store Manager, further cementing his leadership expertise in people-centric retail environments.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
