Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, August 2026 — Senthilkumar Chandrasekaran has been promoted to Group Head – Strategy at VA TECH WABAG Ltd., marking a significant milestone in a career spanning more than 26 years with the company. Having joined WABAG as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 2000, Chandrasekaran has progressed through a succession of engineering, business development, proposal management and enterprise leadership roles.
In his new position, Chandrasekaran will work closely with WABAG’s leadership team to shape the company’s long-term strategic direction, enterprise-wide transformation, innovation agenda and sustainable value creation. His appointment comes as WABAG advances its transformation through Wriddhi, with a focus on strengthening organizational capabilities and positioning the business for its next phase of growth.
Prior to the promotion, Chandrasekaran served as Head – Engineering from March 2022 to August 2026, leading Engineering, Technical Services and Commissioning across India, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. His responsibilities encompassed engineering strategy, digital transformation, technology adoption, operational readiness and enterprise standardization across municipal, industrial, desalination, water reuse and wastewater infrastructure projects. Before this, he established and led WABAG’s Central Proposal Hub, supporting the India and Middle East & Africa business clusters.
His journey at WABAG has also included leadership assignments as Head – Process & Proposals, Head – Process, Municipal Business Group, and Sales Leader, Municipal Business Group. Across these roles, he contributed to strategic opportunity assessment, technology and solution development, bid governance, process optimization and major water infrastructure project acquisition. Earlier, as a Process Engineer, he worked on treatment designs, techno-commercial proposals and engineering packages for municipal and industrial water and wastewater projects.
Chandrasekaran began his WABAG career in July 2000 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee, completing rotations across proposals, process engineering, detailed engineering, construction, testing and commissioning. His progression from an engineering trainee to Group Head – Strategy reflects more than two and a half decades of institutional experience spanning the water infrastructure project lifecycle, engineering leadership, business acquisition and transformation.
