Chieu brings nearly three decades of global automotive and electric vehicle experience, with exposure spanning North America, China, India, Southeast Asia, and Europe. His career includes experience with major automotive and mobility organizations such as General Motors, VinFast, and Hero MotoCorp, giving him a broad perspective across automotive engineering, EV development, global operations, and industrial scale-up.

In his new role as Chief Development Officer, Chieu will lead SPIRO’s end-to-end product development and industrial scale-up agenda. His mandate will include strengthening engineering capabilities and supporting the continued development of the company’s manufacturing footprint as SPIRO scales its electric mobility ecosystem across African markets.

The appointment comes as SPIRO continues to expand its operational footprint, with more than 120,000 electric motorcycles on the road and over 2,500 battery swap stations. Chieu’s global automotive and EV experience is expected to support the company’s ambition to build scalable products and manufacturing capabilities suited to African mobility requirements.

Chieu holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. His combination of engineering expertise and business education complements a career focused on automotive development, commercialization, and global mobility.
