Scotiabank Appoints Naveen Balakrishnan as Vice President, Technology Transformation & Organizational Enablement

Toronto, Ontario, Canada, August 2026 — Scotiabank has appointed Naveen Balakrishnan as Vice President, Technology Transformation & Organizational Enablement, effective August 2026. In this newly created role, Balakrishnan will partner closely with technology teams across the bank’s CTO and CIO organizations to support the execution of its AI, Data, Cloud, and Architecture transformation strategy.

Balakrishnan brings more than 25 years of experience spanning financial services, technology leadership, strategy, business transformation, organizational enablement, investment banking technology, risk, and governance. Prior to joining Scotiabank, he served as Managing Director, Strategy and Business Planning at TD Securities. He previously held the position of Vice President, Head of Global Third Party Management at TD, where he led enterprise-level responsibilities related to third-party management.

His earlier tenure with TD Securities included senior leadership positions as Managing Director, Head of FICC Strategic Initiatives and Managing Director, Technology COO & Head of Investment Banking Technology. In these roles, he developed extensive experience at the intersection of technology, capital markets, strategic transformation, and business operations.

Before TD, Balakrishnan spent eight years with BMO Capital Markets, progressing through leadership roles including Managing Director, Strategy and Business Transformation – Office of the CEO & COO, Managing Director, Technology COO, Director – Electronic Trading Capabilities, Global Markets, and Director – Risk Intelligence, Global Markets. Earlier in his career, he worked with Deloitte as a Manager, served as a Senior Financial Examiner at MFDA, and spent five years as a Senior Investment Analyst at Canada Life.

Alongside his corporate leadership career, Balakrishnan has served as an Adjunct Lecturer at Harvard University since 2022. His combination of technology, financial markets, strategy, transformation, and organizational leadership experience positions him to contribute to Scotiabank’s technology modernization agenda as the bank builds capabilities designed to support greater efficiency, sustainable growth, and improved outcomes for clients and employees.
